It’s been an amazing success for the character Spongebob squarepants and his friends, since the tv series was launched in 1999 on the Nickelodeon channel in the US.
The Series was dreamt up and created, by Mr Hilleburg, who is a biologist by training, and that explains the setting of the cartoon.
Spongebob lives in a city called Bikini Bottom, which is found on the bottom of the ocean. He works at the equivalent of McDonalds, Krusty Krab, where he serves fast food. There are many other characters in the cartoon such as Patrick Star, a starfish, and Sany Cheeks, a squirrel.
On the back of the success as a TV series, a Spongebob movie was produced in 2004, which has done really well at the box office.
